When FSA announced its CRP Northern Bobwhite Quail Habitat Initiative in 2004, the Spencer family of Anderson County, Kansas, was among the first to enroll. The Spencers already had great experience with continuous sign-up CRP, over the years planting 376 acres of filter strips to remove nutrients and sediment from water running off their farmland. Landowner Patrick Woodard of New Bern, North Carolina, enrolled acreage in the Gum Neck area of Tyrrell County in CRP, installing a Shallow Water Area for Wildlife and a Riparian Buffer. The Shallow Water Area, or "duck pond" as Patrick likes to call it, has provided additional wildlife habitat for hundreds of waterfowl and other wildlife in the area. Click here to read more
