Ronnie Mobley is one of 13 agricultural producers in McCracken County, Kentucky, who enrolled land in CRP and established the Shallow Water Areas for Wildlife practice.
In addition to providing vital habitat for many wildlife species, the CRP Shallow Water Areas for Wildlife in McCracken County filter runoff, recharge ground water supplies, protect drinking water, reduce downstream flooding, and provide recreational opportunities. Ronnie's areas are managed as resting areas for quail and geese.
There is also growing interest in McCracken County in one of the newest CRP practices, Habitat Buffers for Upland Birds. Locals term them simply, "quail buffers." In addition to the Shallow Water Areas for Wildlife, Ronnie has devoted some of his CRP contract acres to quail buffers and filter strips.
Swans as well as ducks and geese enjoy resting on CRP Shallow Water Area for Wildlife.
Landowner Ronnie Mobley is pleased that converting this cropland to a CRP Shallow Water Area for Wildlife not only creates wildlife habitat, but also filters runoff, recharges ground water, reduces downstream flooding, and provides recreation.
