"Livestock producers should be aware of the upcoming deadlines for the Livestock Disaster Programs," stated Michael R. Sullivan, State Executive Director for the USDA Farm Service Agency (FSA) in Mississippi.
The 2008 Farm Bill authorized coverage for livestock related losses through three programs: the Livestock Forage Disaster Program (LFP), the Emergency Assistance for Livestock, Honey Bees and Farm-Raised Fish (ELAP) and the Livestock Indemnity Program (LIP).
As dictated by the Farm Bill, Sullivan emphasized that losses must be the result of an eligible adverse weather event occurring on or before September 30, 2011, and that the loss must be timely filed with FSA.
Fact sheets for these programs may be found at www.fsa.usda.gov or at your local FSA Office.
