Roger Koenig has been farming in central North Dakota for 63 years. His operation is diversified, and he raises cattle and produces wheat and other small grains on 2,700 acres. Roger has enrolled 900 acres in the Conservation Reserve Program (CRP). He feels that the CRP helps minimize erosion, and the CRP Wetland Restoration practice has provided an opportunity to restore drained wetlands."
Roger is appreciative of the stable income that CRP provides. Several years ago, Roger suffered some health problems, and stable income from CRP helped carry his family through the difficult time. Roger enjoys the wildlife that has benefited from the CRP and says there are more deer, grouse, and ducks than before CRP.
Roger believes that CRP has saved many farms and farm families and kept communities intact, especially during drought years. He feels CRP has been great for his own farming operation and community. "If I could sign up for another 20 years, I'd do it tomorrow," said Roger.
CRP has helped Roger Koenig restore wetlands that dot his North Dakota farm.
