Plan Deployments

Deployment planning should take into account how and when the product will be made available. This will focus on the deployments to Testing & Certification Office (TCO) and the production environments, though consideration may need to be given to integration deployments as well. Although the Build Plan will likely be completed during the Construction & Assembly phase, some consideration may need to be given now.

To ensure successful deployment, address not only the deliverable software, but also the development of training material and system support material to ensure end users can successfully use the delivered product.

The following activities should be addressed during this phase:

  • Develop a Deployment Plan - identify the set of tasks necessary to install and test the developed product such that it can be effectively transitioned to the user community.

  • Initial Development of the Build Plan - identify how the deployment unit (EAR file, JAR file, etc) will be delivered, installed and accessed.

  • Begin developing the Bill of Materials - should serve as an inventory of the software and materials that are to be delivered and should list the constituent parts of a given version of a product and where the physical parts are stored.

  • Develop Project Specific Support Materials - should include any information that will be required by the end-user to operate, use, and maintain the delivered product that has not already been documented.
