The proof-of-concept is to validate the architecturally-significant requirements. It is needed to prove a concept that was proposed and has not been evaluated, tested and proved.
The purpose of the Architectural Proof-of-Concept is to determine whether there exists, or is likely to exist, a solution that satisfies the architecturally-significant requirements.
The Architectural Proof-of-Concept may take many forms, for example:
- a list of known technologies (frameworks, patterns, executable architectures, COTS) which seem appropriate to the solution.
- a sketch of a conceptual model of a solution.
A proof-of-concept may evolve into a part of the system or be throw away code and discarded.
