Welcome to the Delaware State Website

Delaware's Sussex County is the birthplace of the nation's broiler chicken industry and is Number 1 in U.S. production. Broiler and roaster production accounts for over 70% of cash farm receipts. To support this industry, about one-sixth of Delaware's land area is planted to soybeans each year and another one-sixth to corn.

Farm land in the southern part of the state is also well suited to vegetable production. Kent and Sussex Counties are in the top 70 counties in the U.S. in value of vegetables produced. In 2005, 30 different fruits and vegetables were grown in the state. Delaware plants more lima beans for canning or freezing than any other state in the country.
