A Message from the State Executive Director

Welcome to the Puerto Rico USDA-Farm Service Agency Internet Website.

As a shining star of the Caribbean and known as "La Isla del Encanto", which means "The Island of Enchantment", Puerto Rico is composed of 110 miles long x 35 miles wide, is surrounded by mountains, rain forest, karst areas, arid desert regions, caves, rivers, beaches and oceans. With a warm and tropical climate we describe our agriculture in two systems: one of very small farms mainly producing subsistence commodities and another of large farms producing dairy milk, vegetables, and fruit products. The valuable agriculture enterprises include coffee, plantains, bananas, vegetables, fruits, ornamental nursery, milk production, beef, and poultry products. Although Puerto Rico is a small Island, its population consists of four million people. We have approximately 15, 745 farms; most of them composed of 10 acres or less.

FSA employees are proud in providing service to Puerto Rico's farmers through FSA available programs, such as: Farm Ownership loans, Operating loans, Emergency and Guaranteed Loans. Also: Conservation, Incentives, Price Support and Disaster Assistance Programs.

I invite you to contact us or visit our web page to learn about available services.
