John Berge is the Acting Deputy Administrator for Field Operations at the USDA Farm Service Agency. In this capacity, Berge is responsible for the overall communication and coordination between the USDA national office and the thousands of county offices that support millions of farmers and ranchers nationwide.

 
Prior to this appointment, Berge served as the Executive Director of the National Food and Agriculture Council in the Office of the Secretary. In that position, Berge was the principal coordinator of program integration, communications strategy, administrative functions and other activities of the 14 field-based agencies at USDA.

 
In 2009, Berge was appointed by the Obama Administration to serve as the White House Liaison to the Department of Agriculture where he was the principal liaison between the Executive Office of the President and the Office of the Secretary. In this capacity, he served as an advisor to the Secretary for personnel and organizational structure and was responsible for the placement of 248 Presidential appointees and political appointees on more than 200 boards and commissions at the department. Subsequently, Berge served as the Deputy and Acting Assistant Secretary for Congressional Relations where he managed all operations of that office. He was a member of the Sub-Cabinet and Senior Policy Group and coordinated all interactions with members of Congress and other elected officials and USDA officials.

 
A western Nebraska native who grew up on a corn and wheat farm north of Lisco, Neb., Berge served as the State Director of the "Obama for America" campaign in Nebraska in 2008 and was the Executive Director of the Western Nebraska Community College Foundation in Scottsbluff from 2007-08. Prior to his role at the foundation, Berge worked for five years as the 3rd Congressional District Manager for U.S. Senator Ben Nelson. He also worked with Senators Jim Exon and Bob Kerrey and served as the State Executive Director for the Farm Service Agency in Nebraska during the Clinton Administration.

 
Berge along with his wife Kerri and their son reside in Gering, Neb., where Kerri is the City Clerk.
