Susan D. Holmes, State Executive Director for Georgia

 
U.S. Department of Agriculture Farm Service Agency (FSA) Administrator Teresa Lasseter announced on January 5 the appointment of Susan Dykes Holmes to serve as FSA State Executive Director for Georgia.

 
"Susan Holmes is a seventh generation Jasper County cotton and dairy farmer with a love for Georgia agriculture and rural America," said Lasseter. "She has been a community leader since her early days as school teacher and postmaster. We are excited to have her step into the role as state executive director," Lasseter said.

 

 
2007 Dates and Deadlines

 
March 31 - 2006 final loan & LDP availability date for barley, wheat, honey, oats, rapeseed, canola, flaxseed, sesame seed, and crambe

 
May 1 - Deadline to report cotton "intended" acres for BWEP without late charge

 
May 31 - Deadline to report tobacco acreage
2006 final loan & LDP availability date for corn, cotton, soybeans, sunflower seed, grain sorghum, mustard seed, safflower seed, small chickpeas, dry peas

 
July 1 - Final date to report all Small Grain and Tobacco crop acreage

 
July 15 - Deadline to report Spring/Summer seeded crops for Spring/Summer seeded crops for FSA purposes
Deadline to pay for cotton acres for BWEP

 
August 1 - Deadline to request Farm Reconstitutions (farm combinations and farm divisions) to be effective for the current fiscal year for farms subject to DCP

 
August 3 - Deadline for submitting 2007 Direct and Counter-cyclical program (DCP) Contract, with no late-fee

 
August 15 - Deadline to apply for 2008 NAP (Value Loss Crops, Grass Crops for forage, grazing or seed, Grapes, Cranberries)

 
September 28 - Direct and Counter-cyclical program (DCP) contract with $100 late fee
September 30 - 2002 Farm Bill Expires

 
November 1 - Deadline to request a contract "transfer" or "lump-sum buy-out" of Tobacco Transition Payment Program (TTPP) contracts

 
December 1 - Deadline to apply for NAP (Honey)

 
December 31 - Deadline for Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) practice CP36 signup

 
January 31 - Deadline to apply for NAP (annually planted crops, spring and fall, warm season grasses for grazing)
2008 final loan & LDP availability date for Mohair, Peanuts, Unshorn Pelts, and Wool

The Georgia Farm Service Agency State Committee oversees the activities of the agency. The members are appointed by the Secretary of Agriculture. They hear appeals from local farmers and guide the direction of agency policy.
