CROPLAND CONVERSION

Below are data sets that show:
1) Conversion of noncropland to cropland acreage.
2) Conversion of cropland to noncropland acreage.

 
Producers that participate in Title I programs of the 2008 farm bill are required to report crops planted on cropland on their farms. Other producers may voluntarily report their acres. These data indicate that nearly 400,000 acres across the U.S. were converted from noncropland to cropland between 2011 and 2012, while nearly 150,000 acres were converted from cropland to noncropland uses. The data are not available for earlier years. Note that the data do not necessarily provide the amount of grassland converted to cropland, for further information please click here.
