Producers that participate in Title I programs of the 2008 farm bill are required to report crops planted on cropland on their farms. Other producers may voluntarily report their acres. These data indicate that nearly 400,000 acres across the U.S. were converted from noncropland to cropland between 2011 and 2012, while nearly 150,000 acres were converted from cropland to noncropland uses.
