International Food Aid Conference Heads to Kansas City Next Month

The 2009 International Food Aid Conference (IFAC) will take place next month, April 6-8, 2009, in Kansas City, Mo. The theme this year is “Fighting Hunger in an Era of Global Economic Crisis.”

As the largest agricultural development and food aid gathering in the United States, this conference is expected to draw 700 participants from over 30 countries. The event, sponsored by the USDA and USAID, is attended by representatives from a variety of private voluntary organizations, foreign governments, commodity and transportation companies, and universities. Topics include:

  • Food Security and Access
  • Emergency and Chronic Food Aid
  • Agricultural Development
  • Public-Private Partnerships
  • 2008 Farm Bill
  • Commodity and Energy Supply and Demand Trends
  • Nutrition
  • Supply Chain Management

This year, USDA Secretary Vilsack will deliver a keynote address. Additional participants include Allan Jury, Director of U.S. Relations at the World Food Program; Jeff Borns, Director, Office of Food for Peace at USAID; and Tony Hall, Former U.S. Congressman and Ambassador to U.N. Agencies in Rome. For the updated list of featured speakers, refer to the 2009 IFAC Program.
