Photo of CT State Executive Director, Clark ChapinClark Chapin was appointed by the Trump Administration to serve as the state executive director of the Connecticut USDA Farm Service Agency (FSA) in October 2017.

Chapin grew up on his family dairy farm in New Milford, Connecticut. He graduated from the University of Rhode Island in 1987 with a degree in animal science and technology and earned a master’s degree in community development at Iowa State University in 2009.

Prior to his appointment, Chapin spent 16 years as a Connecticut state legislator, including 14 years serving as ranking member of the Environment Committee, which directly addresses issues involving agriculture, land conservation, water resources, pollution, flood control and erosion. He also worked as project director for the American Farmland Trust/Working Lands Alliance, developing and promoting policies and projects to preserve farmland. Chapin also previously worked for FSA as a temporary program technician.

Some of the many awards he has received throughout his career include the legislator of the year award from Connecticut Farm Bureau in 2003, 2005 and 2011, a distinguished service award from the Connecticut Veterinary Medical Association in 2015, and the legislator leadership award from Working Lands Alliance in 2007, 2012 and 2015.

Chapin, who resides in Ellington, is married to Pat Murphy and together they have four children.
