Photo of Mississippi State Executive Director, Robert A. Carson JrRobert A. (Bobby) Carson Jr. was appointed by the Trump Administration to serve as the state executive director of the Mississippi USDA Farm Service Agency (FSA) in October 2017.

Carson previously served Mississippi FSA as chairman of the State Committee from 2005 to 2008.

He is a third-generation farmer from Quitman County, Mississippi. He has farmed since he graduated from the University of Mississippi in 1975.

Prior to his appointment, Carson managed a farming and ginning operation in the Mississippi Delta for 30 years. He coordinated, administered and implemented modern conservation and wildlife enhancement programs into a conventional row-crop operation and reorganized extensive irrigation programs into an updated, cost-effective water conservation operation. Carson also incorporated timber and wildlife management programs into row-crop farming operations and directed product marketing straight from the producer to the manufacturer.

He has served in top leadership positions in multiple agriculture organizations, including Cotton Incorporated, Cotton Council International, the National Cotton Council American Cotton Producers, the Cotton Foundation, Delta Council and Delta Wildlife. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of Citizens Bank and Trust Company in Marks, Mississippi.

Carson and his wife, Sally, reside in Marks. They have two children and two grandchildren.
