General CRP signup closes Feb. 12

Huron, South Dakota, January 11, 2021 The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Farm Service Agency (FSA) in South Dakota is hosting a webinar at 12 p.m. CST. January 14 to share details and answer questions about the Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) general signup.

During the 30-minute webinar South Dakota FSA program specialists will discuss the CRP General Signup which closes on Feb. 12. FSA partners including NRCS, SD Pheasants Forever and SD Game Fish & Park will also attend. You can join webinar on Jan. 14 through the following link: https://globalmeetwebinar.webcasts.com/starthere.jsp?ei=1419728&tp_key=b2c4837e67

Through CRP, farmers and ranchers establish long-term, resource-conserving plant species, such as approved grasses or trees, to control soil erosion, improve water quality, and enhance wildlife habitat on cropland in exchange for annual rental payments. CRP general signup is held annually.

“The Conservation Reserve Program is a critical tool to help producers manage their operations while conserving natural resources,” said South Dakota Farm Service Agency (FSA) Acting Executive Director Jamie White. “These signups give our farmers and ranchers an opportunity to enroll in CRP for the first time or continue their participation for another term.”

For more information on CRP, visit fsa.usda.gov or contact your local FSA county office.  USDA Service Centers are open for business by phone appointment only and field work will continue with appropriate social distancing. While our program delivery staff will continue to come into the office, they will be working with our producers by phone, and using online tools whenever possible.

All Service Center visitors wishing to conduct business with the FSA, Natural Resources Conservation Service, or any other Service Center agency are required to call their Service Center to schedule a phone appointment. More information can be found at farmers.gov/coronavirus.
