WASHINGTON, Nov. 1, 2023 – The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) encourages urban producers, innovative producers and other stakeholders to submit comments for and virtually attend the upcoming public meeting of the Federal Advisory Committee for Urban Agriculture and Innovative Production (Committee) on Nov. 29, 2023.    

USDA Offers Disaster Assistance to Farmers and Livestock Producers in Tennessee Impacted by Recent Tornadoes

NASHVILLE, Tenn. January 13, 2022 – Tennessee agricultural operations have been significantly impacted by recent tornadoes and severe storms that occurred in early December 2021. The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has technical and financial assistance available to help farmers and livestock producers recover.

USDA Designates 18 Iowa Counties as Primary Natural Disaster Areas

DES MOINES, Iowa, Sept. 3, 2020 — Today, U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue designated 18 Iowa counties as primary natural disaster areas, enabling producers who suffered losses because of the recent Derecho, that occurred on August 10, 2020, to be eligible for emergency loans. Additionally, Perdue reminded producers about the suite of disaster assistance programs available through the U.S.

Biden Administration Appoints Whitney Place to Serve as State Executive Director for USDA’s Farm Service Agency in Minnesota

WASHINGTON, Jan. 19, 2022— The Biden Administration recently appointed Whitney Place as the new State Executive Director (SED) for the USDA Minnesota Farm Service Agency (FSA). Place joined the Minnesota FSA team on Jan. 18, 2022.

Additional Commodities Eligible for Coronavirus Food Assistance Program

WASHINGTON, D.C., July 9, 2020 – Today, U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue announced an initial list of additional commodities that have been added to the Coronavirus Food Assistance Program (CFAP), and that the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) made other adjustments to the program based on comments received from agricultural producers and organizations and review of market data. Producers will be able to submit applications that include these commodities on Monday, July 13, 2020.

USDA Designates 12 Texas Counties as Primary Natural Disaster Areas

This Secretarial natural disaster designation allows the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Farm Service Agency (FSA) to extend much-needed emergency credit to producers recovering from natural disasters through emergency loans. Emergency loans can be used to meet various recovery needs including the replacement of essential items such as equipment or livestock, reorganization of a farming operation or the refinance of certain debts.
