About
David Schemm was appointed by the Trump Administration to serve as the state executive director of the USDA Farm Service Agency (FSA) in Kansas in May 2025.
Schemm returns to FSA where he previously served as the state executive director for Kansas during President Trump’s first term. In 2018, he was awarded State Director of the Year by the employees’ association. Following his tenure with the first Trump administration, Schemm served as Ag Advisor for U.S. Senator Roger Marshall for two years.
Schemm has been actively involved in the Kansas Association of Wheat Growers and the National Association of Wheat Growers in numerous elected positions. He was a member of the 2004 Wheat Industry Leaders of Tomorrow class and completed the Wheat Organization Leaders of the Future program. He has also served on the Ag Data Advisory Committee, Field to Market Executive board, Heartland Plant Innovations board, United Sorghum Checkoff Program board, and served on the A-Team Innovation and Sustainability for United States Grains Council.
Schemm grew up on a third-generation farm in Sharon Springs, Kansas. After marrying his wife, Lisa, and graduating from Ambassador University in Texas, they returned to the family farm. Schemm started a commercial spraying application business and is active in his community, including serving on the school board for 12 years, the Wallace County Health Board, and local extension committee.
As the Schemm family starts to transition the farm to their oldest son, Clay, they continue to honor the memory of their youngest son, Luke, who they lost in 2015 to a football accident, by awarding scholarships to high school seniors.
